BT Reveal DECT Telephone
Users are slowly choosing mobile phones over landlines nowadays. I guess the reason for that is its portability. British Telecom is trying to entice users to go back to landline phones with their product, the BT Reveal DECT Telephone.
The Reveal is one of the most beautiful landline phone created. The reveal combines a cordless handset that’s concealed in a glossy black stand complete with glowing blue light, the phone offers virtually all the latest mod cons to get you to spend the most with BT.
Its features include SMS text support, Caller ID support, and even a hard coded button that allows you to have direct access to BT to check or order these services. Thet base unit provides a digital answering machine with up to 20 minutes recording time, and a SIM card reader so you can transfer and copy over your mobile phone contacts without having to re-key them all in.
However, its not as good as it sounds. First of all, the handset is not that comfortable to hold specially when held to the ear. This is because of its counter-intuitively design, it’s flat on its shiny back but convex on the front where the keypad and microphone sit.
Consequently, the microphone is bent away from your face so it’s hard to place both ends of the handset close to your face. The screen above the keypad is disappointingly monochrome, too.
Still, this is one of the first BT phones to have a speakerphone built into the handset rather than the base station. This is handy if you’re listening to on-hold music but in another room from the base unit.
There’s also a SIM card slot which means you can transfer numbers easily from your mobile, and as it’s a SIM writer as well as reader you can add new numbers from the phone to your mobile card. The phone memory holds 255 names and numbers.
Text messages can be sent from and received by the Reveal, using predictive text input. These can be set so anyone can read them, or personal inboxes can be configured for different family members to offer extra privacy.
Other features include an alarm clock, call timer and a blue downlight on the base to tell you there’s a new message, text or call coming in. And there’s a choice of up to 15 ringtones.
